RIVET OR WELD, THAT IS THE QUESTION..
Welded boats may be ok for some customers, but we prefer the rugged durability of the RIVETED boats:
FACT: Our SmokerCraft Aluminum boats are RIVETED for several reasons:
- Welded boats have no extra bottom keels and no integrated splash rails. Without these features, not only do passengers get wet, especially in cross-winds and choppy conditions, but without extra keels for stability, and depending on speed, steering precision is degraded significantly, and could be dangerous.
- Price may be shaved off welded boats because of these omissions, but is it worth it to the performance and gas saving ability of your boat?
- THINK ABOUT IT: they RIVET airplanes for a reason. Over time, the metal is stressed and needs to be able to move - otherwise, the metal is apt to weaken and break next to the weld. The weld won't break, the metal next to it will. This may not be a big deal with a boat that is not stressed much by the size of the boat or engine HP, but the ones that want to go FAST are stressing the boat metal each time it is used, esp in rough water, with good passenger load.
